Is Your Collection Ready For A Koldfront Wine Cooler?

Curious about the Koldfront brand?  Here are four units for you to take into consideration.  Most  of these fridges are thermoelectric, meaning that they are generally quieter than the larger compressor coolers.  They are also more energy efficient and for the price, do a pretty decent job at chilling your favorite wines.

Who Makes Koldfront Wine Coolers?

Koldfront is a brand name manufactured by Edgestar.  Both Edgestar and Koldfront wine coolers are made in China.

Koldfront Built-In Single Zone Wine Cooler (Amazon)

This unit can store up to 30 standard size wine bottles.  It will easily fit under your counter, maybe where that ugly trash compactor once was.  If you prefer, it looks just as nice as a freestanding unit, giving you the flexibility to place it where you see fit.

  • Compressor cooling
  • Electronic controls and easy to adjust temperature controls
  • Slide out wire shelving
  • Blue LED lighting showcases your collection
  • 15” cooler width makes for a nice, compact unit
  • Single zone cooling; store your collection at one consistent temperature
  • Product Dimensions 23.7 x 15 x 32 inches

Pros & Cons

Like many reviews, the ones on this unit are pretty subjective.  Like, how sensitive is your hearing?  Most people are not bothered by the hum of the unit and say that it’s no different than the hums of other appliances.   Since this model is cooled by a compressor, it won’t be silent like the thermoelectric models.  However, the tradeoff here is the built-in feature.  Temperature fluctuations seem pretty common in wine fridges and this is an issue in some customer reviews.  However, one must keep in mind the ambient temperature of the environment the refrigerator is in because this will affect the internal temp.

Otherwise, the budget-friendly price has people giving this unit a thumbs up.

Koldfront 24 Bottle Free Standing Dual Zone Wine Cooler (Amazon)

Store your wines separately in two different temperature zones!

More to Consider:

  • Free standing installation, really means no installation. Just place it wherever you want!
  • LCD temperature displays for both zones
  • Thermoelectric cooling = quiet(er) and cheap(er); it’s not an energy monster
  • Temperature range: 54-64 degrees F in top zone, 46-66 degrees F in lower zone
  • Dimensions: 33.5″ H x 14″ W x 22.25″ D
  • Shipping Weight: 49 pounds
  • Color: black and stainless steel
  • Warranty: 90 days labor, 1 year parts
  • Model Info: TWR247ESS

What the Manufacturer won’t tell you:

  • No reversible door, it swings left to right, so keep this in mind before finding the perfect spot for it in your home.
  • Constant opening and closing of the fridge door will increase fan time (noise). So keep your chill! and your wines chilled 😉

Thumbs UP!

Enough said. This unit has good reviews. The one complaint that I see again and again with wine fridges, in general, is the advertised storage space vs. what the unit can actually store.  These fridges are built for standard size bottles.  Champagne bottles and other larger bottles can fit with shelf adjustment, but this will decrease the amount of storage you will have.  #Not rocket science. (Wine bottle size chart, here).

Koldfront 18 Bottle Free Standing Dual Zone Wine Cooler (Amazon)

Though slightly smaller in capacity than the previous 24 bottle unit, this one still packs a punch with its dual zone feature.  It also has a safety lock to keep your wines safe and sound. (Here’s another fridge with a safety lock!)

Checklist

  • Thermoelectric: we know what that means by now 😉
  • LCD temperature displays for both zones
  • Tempered glass door with safety lock
  • Wooden shelving, stainless steel door trim, black cabinet design
  • 54-64 degrees F top zone; 46-66 degrees F lower zone
  • Cool mood lighting with interior LED soft lights
  • Shipping weight: 39 lbs
  • Warranty: 90 days labor, 1 year parts
  • Model Info: TWR187ESS

What Customers are Saying

For the price, people are pretty satisfied with this product.  It takes up little space and is pretty quiet too – perfect for small spaces or apartment living.  The lock feature is also appreciated.

An inconvenient feature of this unit is the rear water tray.  If you live in a high humidity environment, like Florida, you might be emptying the water pan more often than others.  The fact that the pan is located in the back of the unit makes it a little cumbersome to access.

Another Option…

Koldfront makes another 18 bottle capacity unit(Amazon)that is more cost-effective than this one.  The only difference we can find is the color!  It is silver and black as opposed to stainless steel and black (like the above unit).  So if you aren’t picky about color, you can save a few bucks with this option.  Reviews varied, some loved it, others had issues with the unit not lasting very long.  A mixed bag.

Koldfront 32 Bottle Free Standing Dual Zone Wine Cooler (Amazon)

This unit is pretty much identical to the 24 Bottle Dual Zone Cooler we looked at above.  Only difference is 1. The Price and 2. The Capacity.

Checklist

  • Thermoelectric cooling; vibration-free
  • Dual zone
  • Safety lock
  • Dimensions: 33.5″ H x 15.75″ W x 22.5″ D
  • LCD control panel, diplays temperatures for both zones
  • Wooden shelves
  • Dimensions: 33.5″ H x 15.75″ W x 22.5″ D
  • Black cabinet with stainless steel door trim
  • 56.9 lbs
  • Tempered glass door
  • Warranty: 90 days labor, 1 year parts
  • Model Info: TWR327ESS

What Customers are Saying

For a 32 bottle capacity wine fridge, people are loving this compact, narrow unit that fits easily in any room.  Temperature holds well, it’s quiet and doesn’t produce heat.  The shelves are easy to access with their slide-out feature.  Speaking of shelves…

On the con side, shelves were said to be too close together which limits the size and amount of bottles you can store.  One customer remarked that it does hold the advertised 32 standard sized bottles, but for larger bottles like Champagne, you do have to adjust the shelves accordingly.

As with the previous unit reviewed, the water pan/tray is located in the back and makes access a little more difficult; this can be frustrating if you’re having to empty the tray a lot, but that really depends on where you live and the amount of humidity/condensation your tray is collecting.

Otherwise “a great investment” says a reviewer.

In Summary

To sum it all up, here’s are the benefits and setbacks of owning a Koldfront Wine Cooler.

Benefits:

  • Good for your wallet: for a small capacity wine fridge, these units are pretty budget-friendly
  • Good starter fridge: if you’re just starting to collect wines and you want to see how it goes, a nice little unit to start chilling your collection is a great start.  You can always upgrade later.
  • You have the option to choose a built-in model which is cooled by a compressor, or a thermoelectric unit which is less noisy.
  • Space saver: these are not huge fridges, their narrow design takes up little space in your home.

Set backs:

  • As advertised, these fridges are built for standard size bottles only.  This means that you will have to remove a shelf or shelves in order to storer larger bottles.
  • Tight fit: although they do fit the advertised number of bottles (standard size) it could be a tight fit as some have reviewed.
  • Rear water pan/tray: makes it harder to access to empty.

We hope we’ve shed some light on Koldfront Wine Coolers for you!  We found that  these 4 units received the best  reviews when compared with some of the other Koldfront units.  For the cost. they get the job done within a reasonable budget.  Happy shopping!
